What is Counselling Supervision?
To be a registered counsellor in Australia, you must be registered with one of the two peak association bodies: the Australian Counselling Association (ACA) and/or the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA).
Both of these organisations have annual supervision requirements, in addition to ongoing professional development.
The recommended industry standard for counsellors is one hour of supervision for every 20 hours of client contact or one hour of supervision every working week for counsellors with a full time case load. ACA members must complete a minimum of 10 hours of supervision per year. This requirement may include individual, peer and group supervision within the ACA limits.
Ongoing, regular counselling supervision is not only mandated by these associations, it is an integral part of ensuring you are not only upholding your requirements as a counsellor, but also supporting yourself and the well-being of your clients. Counselling supervision is multi-faceted; it is an excellent avenue to focus upon expanding your professional development as a counsellor whilst ensuring you are maintaining proper standards of practice.
Laura is a registered Counselling Supervisor with the ACA College of Supervisors and provides supervision services in accordance with the ACA Supervision Policy. Both individual and group supervision services are available.
Individual supervision is conducted in one hour sessions on the Zoom platform or face to face at our clinic on Sydney’s North Shore.
Group supervision programs are conducted online via the Zoom platform, with a maximum of 6 participants per program.
