What is Counselling & Psychotherapy and what is the difference?
Counselling and psychotherapy are interchangeable terms for evidence-based therapeutic support. Psychotherapy uses proven psychological models to support others with challenging life situations and behavioural change. Counselling is a broader term for assistance with resolving personal challenges in life. It is important to note that neither counselling nor psychotherapy provide for diagnoses or medication with mental health challenges.

Sessions focus on support with not only current situational issues in life, but also day to day challenges faced; oftentimes these challenges have roots in a longer term way of being in life, a way in which we have adapted, perhaps negatively so, in order to deal with life’s challenges.

A true counsellor understands that we each innately hold the wisdom and a true way forward for ourselves deep within. My role as a counsellor and psychotherapist is to support you to access this inner wisdom by reflecting to you perhaps a different way a being, a new way to approach a situation, or perhaps a deeper truth of a situation, whilst offering you the space just be yourself, all grounded in evidence-based therapeutic interventions, the use of which varies from client to client.
As a counsellor, I am here to challenge you, to confirm you, and to support you to take responsibility for how you are with yourself and others, all the while holding your hand as you take the steps back to a loving way of being with yourself. You are the only one that can change your life, and it is always you that knows you, best.
